Four fires are thought to have been intentionally set in less than two days this week in the area around Hill Rise and Terrace View drives.
A Dumpster fire was reported at The Preakness apartments at 12:28 a.m. Monday, and at 12:48 a.m., a small fire was found in a vacant duplex on Terrace View Drive, according to a news release from the Lexington Fire Department.
At 1:31 a.m. Tuesday, a Dumpster fire was reported at 708 Hill Rise Court. As firefighters were getting ready to leave that scene about 25 minutes later, they discovered a small fire on the outside of a detached garage behind 1702 Versailles Road.
The origin of the fires is still under investigation, but they are believed to be arson.
"There is currently no information to indicate these fires are related to previous fires that occurred over the past 18 months in this area," the fire department release stated.
The area around Hill Rise Drive was plagued by a rash of about a dozen arson-related fires in December 2011 and January 2012.
Then, about six suspicious fires occurred in the area around Hill Rise Drive within a 24-hour span last May. Ray R. Giattino was indicted in October on one count of first-degree arson in connection with the last and most serious of the May fires, which was set in the Messner Home.
Giattino is still being held in the Fayette County Detention Center, according to the jail's website.
Anyone with information about the four most recent fires may call the Lexington Fire Investigations Bureau at 231-5672.
