Woodford County Notes: Midway Woman's Club celebrates 90 years

The Midway Woman's Club celebrated its 90th year with a dinner May 9 at 815 Prime in Midway.

At the event, Jessica Morgan, a senior at Woodford County High School, was named the club's 2013 scholarship recipient. Katie Brown, a first-year member and treasurer of the club, was named the 2013 Clubwoman of the Year. Amanda Glass was installed as president for the coming year, with a slate of returning officers, including Katie Brown, treasurer; Kelly Brengelman, corresponding secretary; Jennifer Embry, recording secretary; and Tonya Steele, parliamentarian. Janice Holland is the immediate past-president of the club. Trustees are Debra Shockley, chair, Laura Gray and Sarah Wilson.

The club supported various fundraising and civic activities over the last year, including a yard sale during the Midway Fall Festival, Halloween Happening at Northside Elementary, Coats for Kids with the children from Northside Elementary, a fall fashion show at Holly Hill Inn, a Christmas wreath-making class and the Weekend Food Backpack Program by Midway Presbyterian Church for students at Northside Elementary.
