Lex-Care: Woman with cancer needs help phoning husband on deployment

May 22, 2013

Shannon Gordon, a social worker at the Senior Citizens Center, is working with a client who needs $185.08 to get minutes added to her cellphone.

The client is a married woman whose husband has deployed with a Kentucky Army National Guard unit to Afghanistan. Since his departure, she has been diagnosed with cancer. The phone is necessary so they can communicate about her medical condition and treatment.

Once the service is reinstated, she will be able to manage on the monthly allotment her husband has arranged for her to receive from his military pay.
