Driver charged with DUI after crash involving Lexington police car

May 23, 2013

A Lexington police cruiser was struck by another car during a traffic stop early Thursday on South Broadway.

Officer Eddie Thurman had stopped one motorist for driving the wrong way in an outbound lane of Broadway, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

About 1 a.m., another vehicle collided with the first car that was stopped, pushing that car into the police cruiser, Roberts said.

The first driver was charged with reckless driving, and the second driver was charged with driving under the influence, Roberts said.

No injuries were reported.
