Summer adds up to three months and some change. It seems so vast when it sits before you, all uncharted and unspent.

But we all know what happens. Once summer ignites, it burns brightly at lightning speed. And with its unofficial inauguration upon us this weekend, we can rightly assume that the seasonal fuse has been lit.

So let's get down to business, shall we? We've got a fortune of live music, as we do every summer: shows and styles to accommodate almost every taste and budget. Some are right in our own backyard. Quite a few call for a road trip, but then, hitting the highway is part of what makes summer so glorious.

To help create your seasonal soundtrack, we have again assembled our annual summer concert guide — a glossary of 215 performances that will take place within a two-hour drive of Lexington. It's all here, from Andrew W.K. to ZZ Top, from Mountain Heart to Bruno Mars and from Loretta Lynn to LL Cool J. Just keep in mind that info on every one of these shows is subject to change, so calling ahead regarding concerts that require travel time is highly recommended. To help with that, we are including contact info for all the venues the calendar covers.

Here, then, is the concert lineup that stretches out before us. It might look long now, but just like summer itself, expect the trip to be fun but exceedingly quick.
