The National Endowment for Arts awarded $681,900 to the Kentucky Arts Council.

The majority of the award consists of undesignated funds that may be used however the state arts council sees fit. Other awards are earmarked for specific purposes. About 24 percent of this year's funding was predetermined: $17,500 for the Poetry Out Loud program, $41,700 for arts in education, $85,100 for underserved communities and $19,400 for folk and traditional arts.

The National Endowment for the Arts is an independent organization of the federal government that has granted more than $4 billion to uphold art and innovations. This year, all 50 states and six territories amounted to $47 million in awards from the NEA.
