Two Legends pitchers named to all-star game

Herald-Leader Staff ReportJune 4, 2013

Lexington Legends pitchers Christian Binford and Alec Mills have been chosen to represent the Southern Division in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game.

Binford and Mills, both right-handers, were the only Legends chosen for the June 18 game in Lakewood, N.J.

Binford, 20, from Hagerstown, Md., has started 10 games this season. He's 4-2 with a 2.67 earned run average. He has struck out 57 and walked 13 in 571⁄3 innings.

Mills, 21, a native of Clarksville, Tenn., made 15 relief appearances before recently moving into the starting rotation. He is 1-2 with six saves and an ERA of 1.59. Mills has struck out 35 and walked eight in 34 innings.

"We're thrilled for Christian and Alec," said Legends General Manager Seth Poteat. "Our entire pitching staff has been fantastic this season. ... It's quite an accomplishment, and we can't wait to watch them compete against the best the South Atlantic League has to offer."

The Legends' staff ERA of 2.98 entering Tuesday's games was the best in the South Atlantic League.

Augusta topped the Southern Division with six all-star selections. Hickory, West Virginia and Hagerstown led the Northern Division with six apiece.

The Legends were to begin a six-game road trip Tuesday night in Savannah. After three games in Savannah and three in Augusta, the Legends will be back home June 10 to begin a three-game series against Rome.
