Transy hires first female athletics director

June 4, 2013

Transylvania University has named Holly K. Sheilley as its athletics director effective July 1.

Sheilley, currently the assistant director of championships for the NCAA, previously worked at the University of Louisville for Athletics Director Tom Jurich. She received her doctorate in sports administration from U of L and her master's in health education from Eastern Kentucky. She was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from Asbury, where she played softball and volleyball.

She coached both sports at Lindsey Wilson College, earning the title of Female College Coach of the Year for Kentucky in 2000.

"I am committed to continuing the long-standing history of academic and athletic excellence by raising the bar and moving us forward as contenders in Division III," said Sheilley, who will be the first female AD in Transy's history.

Transy has expanded its athletics offerings in recent years, now offering men's and women's lacrosse. It has expanded its athletics facilities with new playing fields on Fourth Street.
