Jessamine County: EJMS students advance to nationals; $5 rabies vaccinations offered

East Jessamine Middle School students Aleah Archer and Connor Aubrey have been selected to participate June 9-13 in the National History Day Contest at the University of Maryland, College Park.

National History Day is an academic enrichment program that promotes the study of history for students in grades 6-12. Students create exhibits, documentaries, performances, web sites and write papers. Archer and Aubrey advanced to the national competition with a documentary they created about the Dred Scott decision.

Rabies vaccinations for pets offered

The Jessamine County Health Department and local veterinarians are offering $5 rabies vaccinations this month at the following times and locations: 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at Rosenwald Dunbar Elementary; 6-8 p.m. Monday at Lake Mingo Park; 6-8 p.m. June 13 at Wilmore Elementary; and noon-2 p.m. June 15 at Jessamine County Fairgrounds. The vaccinations are for domestic animals only. Dogs must be on leashes and cats should be in carriers.

Aquatic Center opens for summer

The Jessamine County Aquatic Center is open through August from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon-7 p.m. Sunday. Admission prices are: ages 2 and under — free, ages 3 through 15 — $4, and 16 years and older — $6. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult in all areas of the facility.
