June 12, 2013

A man was killed in a fiery crash early Wednesday morning on Interstate 75 in Fayette County, officials said.

The man was identified Wednesday afternoon as Michael McCall, 22, of Cynthiana, according to the Fayette County Coroner's office. McCall died of blunt-force trauma with burns, the coroner said.

The accident occurred at 1:52 a.m. in the northbound lane of Interstate 75, just past the Athens-Boonesboro Road entrance ramp at mile 104, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

A Chevrolet truck drove onto the shoulder and rear-ended a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder. The driver of the tractor-trailer was sleeping.

The Chevrolet truck caught fire, killing McCall, Roberts said.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ware Funeral Home in Cynthiana.
