Grand jury takes no action against Scott deputy who shot, killed man

June 12, 2013

A Scott County grand jury took no action against a deputy sheriff who shot and killed a man on April 27, Sheriff Tony Hampton said.

The grand jury's review "completely justified" Deputy Grayson Mark Isaacs in shooting Ronald Michael Davis, 31, of Berea, Hampton said. Hampton had said all along that Issacs shot Davis in self-defense.

Davis shot Ciji D. Barnes, 29, multiple times at a Fayette County BP gas station at the Interstate 75 Athens-Boonesboro exit on the morning of April 27, Lexington police have said.

Davis then led police on a chase into Scott County, where deputies used devices to deflate his tires. State police said Davis got out of the car near Exit 129 and pointed a handgun at the deputies, but Isaacs shot him with a rifle.

"Knowing the situation as much as I know now, my deputy was completely justified in his actions," Hampton said.
