Two 18-year-olds were killed early Friday in a single-vehicle accident in Pike County in which eight people were riding in a Ford Mustang car, Kentucky State Police said.

The accident occurred at 2:05 a.m. Friday at KY Route 3501 and KY 1469, police said.

Jonathan Newsome, 18, of Teaberry was driving south on Ky 3501 when he failed to negotiate a turn onto Ky 1469, police said

The vehicle struck a dirt embankment at the intersection of Ky 1469. Newsome and passenger Alexandrea Tipton 18, of Harold, were pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts.

The vehicle had six additional passengers. Police said in a release that those passenger's conditions were not immediately known. But a dispatcher said Saturday that at least one passenger was treated at a hospital and released and one other passenger had life-threatening injuries.

Newsome and the seven passengers in the vehicle were not wearing seatbelts, police said.
