A fatal accident, the second in two days involving drivers who ran red lights, occurred late Saturday on the Georgetown Bypass.

Phillip Lee Burgess Jr., 28, died when the car in which he was a passenger ran a red light at Lemons Mill Road and was hit by another car, Georgetown police said. Burgess was taken to Georgetown Community Hospital, where he died of blunt-force trauma to the upper body. Johnny Ray Allen, 32, of Georgetown, identified as the driver of the car in which Burgess was riding, was charged with driving under the influence and second-degree manslaughter.

On Friday, Vickie Carol Lynch,49, was killed when her car was hit by a church van that ran a red light at Paris Road. Ministerial student Tyler Knueppel, 22, was driving the Bluegrass Baptist Church van.

Georgetown police Sgt. Todd Stone said Sunday it was just a strange coincidence that there were two fatal accidents on consecutive days on the bypass involving drivers running red lights. "Rather than sit for a minute and wait for the light to change, they rush through with an attitude of gotta go, gotta go, gotta go," Stone said.
