LexTran bus, SUV collide at Broadway and Third Street; five hurt

jwarren@herald-leader.comJune 17, 2013

At least five people were injured just before 1 p.m. Monday when a LexTran bus and an SUV collided at North Broadway and West Third Street.

None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, LexTran spokeswoman Jill Barnett said.

Barnett said the Newtown Pike bus was inbound, headed for the Lexington Transit Center, when the crash occurred.

About 16 passengers were on the bus. That's a typical number for that bus on an early Monday afternoon, Barnett said.

The driver of the green SUV and four bus passengers were taken to a hospital, Barnett said.

The wreck snarled traffic on West Third, and northbound traffic on Broadway, for almost an hour.

Barnett said the bus could be driven, but LexTran sent another bus to take the remaining 12 passengers to the transit center.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
