A grenade was found in the parking lot of a school in Anderson County on Monday afternoon, but it turned out to be inactive because there was no powder inside, Kentucky State Police trooper Ronald Turley said.

A staff member at Phoenix Academy found the device at 12:27 p.m. and called Lawrenceburg police, according to a news release from state police.

The state police Hazardous Devices Unit responded and determined the grenade was not explosive.

There were no children at the school at the time.

Anyone with information should call detective Ben Wolcott at the state police post in Frankfort at (502) 227-2221.
