Thirty-two contestants from scholarship pageants throughout the state will be vying next week to become Miss Kentucky 2013.
The pageant will be at the University of Kentucky Singletary Center for the Arts. Preliminary competitions will be at 7 p.m. June 27-28. The final night of competition, culminating with the crowning of the new Miss Kentucky, will be on June 29.
Tickets to the three nights of competition — $25 each night of the preliminaries and $50 for the finals — are available by calling the Singletary Center box office at (859) 257-4929 or by visiting Singletarycenter.com.
More than $41,000 in cash scholarships will be awarded to contestants in addition to prizes and in-kind scholarships to various colleges and universities.
The winner will represent Kentucky in the Miss America Pageant in September in Atlantic City, N.J., and broadcast live on ABC.
Again this year, one of the semifinalists for Miss Kentucky will be determined by the public rather than the panel of judges. Each online vote costs $1 at Misskentuckypageant.com, payable by credit card or PayPal. There is no limit to the number of votes a person may cast. The contestant with the most votes will be named "Kentucky's Choice" and will be one of the 13 semifinalists.
Voting ends at 9 p.m. June 28, and all proceeds from the voting will benefit the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization, a nonprofit program.
