Woman's nose partially bitten off; roommate charged

Lexington police were called to an East Main Street apartment Monday night after April Collins, 40, allegedly bit off the tip of her roommate's nose, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

Collins and her roommate reportedly got into an argument that turned physical when Collins lunged at the victim and bit her, Roberts said.

Collins was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, Roberts said.

Collins pleaded not guilty at her arraignment in Fayette District Court on Tuesday.

She was being held in the Fayette County Detention Center on $5,000 bond and was ordered to have no contact with the victim, court records showed.

The victim, identified in the police blotter as Penny Lane McConnell, 40, was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital but had been discharged by Tuesday afternoon.
