A man who is wanted in Lexington on a murder charge is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday in Michigan.

Terrence Sims, 43, is charged with fatally shooting Stephen Kavanaugh Jr., 33, on June 4, 2010, on Elsmere Park near Sixth Street.

Police officers responding to the shooting got into a foot chase with the suspected shooter, but the man got away.

Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said because of the investigation, she could not say what led to Sims' arrest after three years. Lexington police officers went to Flint, Mich., last week, Roberts said.

Fayette County Sheriff Kathy Witt said her office will begin the process of returning Sims to Kentucky after the hearing.
