Events for Lexington's Fourth of July Festival

Lexington's Fourth of July Festival events

Great American Pie Contest: The old-fashioned Great American Pie Contest and Ice Cream Social, hosted by Alltech, kicks off the festivities on July 2. The pies will be cut and Chaney's Dairy Barn ice cream will be served at noon in the Fifth Third Bank Pavilion in Cheapside Park.

Patriotic concert: The free patriotic concert is at 8 p.m. July 3, on the lawn of Old Morrison at Transylvania University, with the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra and the Lexington Singers. The Young at Heart Jazz Band will perform from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The concert's sponsors are Hilliard-Lyons and Transylvania.

Bluegrass 10,000: The Bluegrass 10,000, in its 37th year, will be July 4. The crank wheelchair division starts at 7:20 a.m., the wheelchair division starts at 7:25 a.m., the 10K starts at 7:30 a.m. and the Fun Run begins at 8:15 a.m. Lexington will pay tribute this year to the Boston Marathon with a message on T-shirts to "Remember Boston."

Street festival and music: The downtown street festival, which begins at 9 a.m. July 4, will feature arts and crafts, food and beverages, and commercial vendors until 6 p.m. There will be free entertainment at five sites from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Children's craft activities will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Billboard lot at Short Street and Limestone.

Parade: One of Lexington's largest parades begins at 2 p.m., rolling down Main Street from Midland Avenue to Broadway.

Thursday Night Live!: There's a special free Central Bank Thursday Night Live concert from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank Pavilion in Cheapside Park. The band will be Catch 22.

Fireworks: The fireworks display over downtown Lexington begins at 10 p.m. The fireworks are sponsored by R.J. Corman.

Red, White and Boom: The Red, White and Boom concert and fireworks display will be July 5 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. There will be nine musical acts and tickets to the event are $9. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show ends at 11 p.m.
