BOWLING GREEN — — The 2012 Kentucky Golf House Junior Player of the Year leads the way after two days of the Kentucky State Amateur golf championships.

On Wednesday — the second day of the event — Tyler McDaniel of Manchester shot 5-under to take over sole possession of first place.

McDaniel is 9-under through two days and holds a three-stroke lead over Clay Hinton.

McDaniel has a lot of experience at the Bowling Green Country Club golf course and said he doesn't plan to change his strategy heading in to the last day of the tournament.

Hinton shot even par in the second round after shooting 6-under on Tuesday.

"There's going to be more pressure on the second day when you hold the lead," Hinton said. "But you've got to realize that it's just the second day."

"You just got to take it one shot at a time and go from there."

Matt Fuqua of Bowling Green and Patrick Newcomb of Benton are tied for third at 4-under par.

Newcomb, who has won the last two Kentucky State Amateur golf championships, shot 1-over on Wednesday after heading into the second day 5-under.

He said he struggled to hit quality shots all day.

"I need to put in work tomorrow and give it my best," Newcomb said. "Today I didn't give it my best."

The final round of the championship will be played Thursday at the Bowling Green Country Club golf course.
