University of Kentucky football player T.J. Jones has been dismissed from the team for "violation of team rules," UK athletics spokesman Tony Neely said Wednesday.

UK declined to be more specific.

Jones, a sophomore offensive lineman, was arrested on a weapons charge in December in his hometown of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; it was reported that he might have brought a handgun to Myrtle Beach High School, his alma mater.

Neely said at the time that UK Coach Mark Stoops planned to "address the issue" after he had "an opportunity to meet with the player and gather relevant information."
