Lex-Care: Elderly widow needs help to pay electric bill

June 26, 2013

Jennifer Newtown, a social worker at the Senior Citizen Center, submitted a case that involves an elderly widow, who lives with her disabled daughter. The woman needs $398.34 to pay a past due electric bill. The mother and daughter were managing well until July when the mother was diagnosed with cancer. During the course of treatments the two have fallen behind on the electric bill. Once the bill is paid they will be able to manage on the Social Security benefit the mother receives and the disability benefits the daughter gets.
