A Lexington man was taken to a hospital Thursday night after neighbors rescued him from his burning home on Byars Avenue, Lexington Fire Battalion Chief Brian Wainscott said.

The fire occurred at 11:40 p.m. Thursday, Wainscott said.

Wainscott said he could not identify the man who was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. Firefighters rescued the man's uninjured dog. The house had significant damage, Wainscott said.

The cause of the fire had not been determined.
