A man was electrocuted Sunday afternoon while swimming in Lake Cumberland in Pulaski County, state authorities said.

WKYT identified the victim Sunday night as Kevin Short, 34, of Lily in Laurel County.

The accident occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. Sunday as the victim and members of his family were swimming at a private boat dock in the Garland Bend area, according to a news release from Capt. Tim Catron of the state Division of Fish and Wildlife Resources, which worked the scene.

Pulaski County Deputy Coroner Danny Karriker said Short took hold of aluminum ladder at a private dock and it touched a frayed electrical cord, electrocuting him.

Karriker said Short was able to push his young son onto the dock to safety. Several people tried to reach Short, but they also were shocked.
