Charming Charlie, Lululemon, Francesca's coming to Lexington Green

Extending the plan to revamp itself into a high-end fashion center, The Mall at Lexington Green will soon open three new stores: Charming Charlie, Lululemon and Francesca's.

"Charming Charlie's is a very appealing accessories store," said Doris Benson, past president of Langley Properties, which owns Lexington Green. "Lululemon, a running and yoga clothing store, is doing great in Chevy Chase, so we decided to open another one here."

Francesca's, formerly called Francesca's Collection, "is doing well in the mall, so we wanted to open a second location here," Benson said, referring to the chain's store in the nearby Fayette Mall. "It will be more convenient for on-the-go shoppers to quickly stop here and go about their day."

The stores will fill spaces vacated by tenants whose leases "expired," Benson said.

One of the stores to be replaced is Worlds Apart, a locally owned clothing, accessories and home décor retailer that has consolidated its operation at its store on East High Street.

"We are very pleased with the progress that's been made," Benson said. "Retailers believe in Lexington and its stable economy."

Charming Charlie is scheduled to open in the fall, she said, and Lululemon and Francesca's Collection are expected to open early next year.

This will be Charming Charlie's first Lexington store and its third in Kentucky; other stores are in Paducah and Crestview Hills. The Houston-based chain has more than 200 stores nationwide.

Francesca's, also based in Houston, has more than 400 stores nationwide, including at Fayette Mall and in Louisville, Crestview Hills, Bowling Green and Cincinnati.

Lululemon is owned by Lululemon Athletica, based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The company has made headlines recently because of quality-control problems related to its clothing and the announcement that its CEO, Christine Day, is stepping down. Besides Euclid Avenue, Lululemon has stores in Louisville and Cincinnati.
