Fayette coroner seeks help finding family of slain sex offender

July 5, 2013

The Fayette County coroner's office wants help finding family or friends of a 51-year-old man who died of a head injury Sunday.

David Bailey died several days after he was punched once in the face June 22 in Clark County. No one has come forward to claim his body, according to an e-mail from the Fayette County coroner's office.

Demetrious Morton, 35, has been charged with manslaughter in Bailey's death. He allegedly punched Bailey after Bailey was seen talking to a group of children, according to police and court records. Bailey was living in Winchester and was listed as a non-compliant sex offender in the Kentucky State Police registry.

Morton did not know Bailey was a sex offender at the time of the assault, police Sgt. Tom Beall testified Wednesday.

State police were unable to provide information Friday on why Bailey was on the registry or why he was considered non-compliant.

Anyone with information was encouraged to call 859-455-5700.
