Business awards: Week of July 8

George J. Miller has been elected a fellow in The College of Labor and Employment. The College was established in 1995 and operates as a free-standing organization recognizing those who have distinguished themselves as leaders in the field.

Miller is a partner in the Lexington office of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs and a member of the firm's Labor and Employment Services Team.

Carl Howard, president and CEO of Fazoli's, has been recognized as executive of the year and received a Gold Stevie Award in the 11th Annual American Business Awards. Howard was awarded the Gold Stevie in the food and beverage category.

All organizations operating in the U.S. are eligible to submit nominations for the American Business Awards. Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word for "crowned," the trophies were presented during a banquet June 17 at the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park Hotel.

■ Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner James Comer has been awarded National Friend of Extension honors by the cooperative extension organization Epsilon Sigma Phi.

Comer will accept the award at the National Extension Agents Galaxy Conference in Pittsburgh in September. He is one of four 2013 National Friend of Extension recipients and the only one who is an elected official.

The Kentucky chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi, made up of Kentucky county extension agents, nominated Comer for the award.

■ Plant employees at E. W. Brown generating station near Burgin have received the Kentucky Governor's Health and Safety Award for outstanding safety performance. Brown employees won the award for working 4,144,448 hours without a lost-time incident, the last of which occurred in February 1997.

Companies are assessed on employer benefits and policies as well as employee engagement and satisfaction.
