Fayette coroner releases name of woman found in bag; man charged in death

Chico Duwan Rucker is charged with murder and tampering with evidence.

Lexington police have arrested a man in the death of a 32-year-old woman whose body was found in a bag behind a Lexington apartment complex.

Chico Duwan Rucker, 38, was charged with murder and tampering with evidence in the death of Elmia Farris.

Farris' name was released by the coroner Tuesday morning. The coroner's office would not release any more information, including cause of death.

The state medical examiner's office in Frankfort conducted an autopsy Monday.

The body was found behind apartments about 4:30 p.m. Sunday on the 1800 block of Marietta Drive, off Anniston Drive in eastern Lexington, police said.

The apartments' manager was working behind the building when he "located a bag that had a very foul smell," police Lt. Eddie Hart said Sunday.

Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said Rucker lived with the woman. Roberts would not say whether he was a boyfriend or relative.

Roberts said Rucker was charged with tampering because police think the woman was killed and then her body was moved behind the apartments.

After finding the body, Roberts said detectives "had a hunch" that they knew who the woman was. She said a woman who lived in the apartment complex was missing. Police located Rucker to talk to him about her whereabouts.

Rucker had outstanding warrants in Jefferson County, so they arrested him, Roberts said. During the interview, detectives realized they had probable cause to make an arrest in the murder case. Roberts did not elaborate.
