Crews from several police and fire agencies on Tuesday found the body of a man near Elkhorn Creek after a search, Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said. The body was found around 6:20 p.m.

A cadaver dog in a boat had showed interest in a spot about 100 to 150 yards downstream from where the body of Buford J. Barron III was last seen on Monday, Melton said. The area is perhaps 100 yards upstream from the Jim Beam Distillery east of Frankfort, he said.

Barron, 28, of Scott County, was fishing with a friend Sunday night when he slipped on a rock and fell into the water. The friend ran to a nearby house to call 911.

Crews of firefighters, deputy sheriffs and others searched the creek off U.S. 460 east of Frankfort for two days before recovering the body.

The body was spotted Monday but it went under the water before Frankfort firefighters could retrieve it.

The creek was swollen from recent rains but the water had receded enough on Monday for boats to be put into the swift-moving water.

Melton estimated that 20 people were involved in Tuesday's recovery effort.
