Terrence Sims

A Kentucky man pleaded not guilty Friday in Fayette District Court to murder in connection with a 2010 shooting in Lexington.

Terrence Sims, 43, was arrested in June in Michigan. He is accused of fatally shooting Stephen Kavanaugh Jr., 33, on June 4, 2010, on Elsmere Park near Sixth Street.

Police officers responding to the shooting got into a foot chase with the suspected shooter, but the man got away. Lexington police have not said what led to Sims' arrest after three years but other media have reported that evidence obtained in Michigan matched samples from the crime scene in Lexington.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 29.
