A man being taken from the jail in Jessamine County to the Fayette County Detention Center escaped from a Fayette County sheriff's deputy Monday afternoon.

Christian Lynn Cox, 22, was riding in the back of the deputy's cruiser when he got out of the car in Nicholasville, said Maj. Jay Pittman of the Fayette County sheriff's department.

Cox was arrested Monday in Jessamine County on a warrant out of Fayette County for a probation violation. He now will face a charge of escape in Jessamine County, Pittman said.

Pittman said Cox was handcuffed, with his hands behind his back. When asked whether the cruiser's doors were locked, Pittman said that is "still under investigation."

"We're trying to determine exactly how he got out," Pittman said.
