UofL sets fundraising record

Associated PressJuly 21, 2013

LOUISVILLE — The University of Louisville says it broke its own fundraising record by receiving $162 million in private donations in the past year.

The total taken in during the year ending this past June 30 amounted to a nearly 12 percent increase from the year before.

UofL says the donations will benefit student scholarships, research and new campus facilities.

The university said Friday it received donations from more than 29,000 individuals and other sources, up nearly 6 percent from the prior year. The largest gift exceeded $11 million.

For the second straight year, private giving exceeded state funding as a revenue source for UofL.

The contributions are part of UofL's $1 billion fundraising campaign that ends next summer. Through June 30, the school had raised $825 million.
