Rowan man dies when his oxygen tank explodes

A Rowan County man who was dependent on oxygen died Wednesday night when a fire caused an oxygen tank to explode while he was on his front porch.

Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt identified the victim as Richard "Ricky" Jones, 52, of Clearfield.

Fire officials were called to Jones' home at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Northcutt said.

Northcutt said authorities had not yet determined what ignited the tank.
