A barefoot robber armed with a knife and wearing a hard hat took a cash register Tuesday from a gas station on North Broadway, police said.

The robbery occurred at 12:13 a.m. at the Marathon station in the 1900 block of North Broadway, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

The robber was a white man about 6-foot-1 and weighing about 250 pounds. He was dressed in a white T-shirt, denim shorts, sunglasses and a hard hat. He produced a knife with a 10-inch blade, took the cash register and fled, Roberts said.

The robber was seen running across North Broadway and the railroad tracks parallel to the street. He got into a newer white extended-cab pickup truck parked at a church on Old Paris Road. It was last seen headed toward New Circle Road.

Anyone with information about the robbery may call Lexington police at (859) 258-3600.
