The Kentucky Blood Center has issued an urgent request for negative blood types.

People with O-negative, B-negative and A-negative blood types are being asked to donate, according to a blood center news release.

Blood center spokeswoman Denise Fields said the amount of blood used for transfusions fluctuates monthly, and it happened to increase in July.

The negative blood types are being distributed to hospitals almost as quickly as they are being donated, she said.

Blood banks nationwide are asking people with negative blood types to donate, according to the news release.

People can donate at four locations: Beaumont Donor Center at 3121 Beaumont Centre Circle; Andover Donor Center at 3130 Maple Leaf Drive in the Andover Shoppes; Pikeville Donor Center at 472 S. Mayo Trail; and Somerset Donor Center off of Highway 27 at stoplight 16A.

To make a donation appointment, donors can go to or call 1-800-775-2522.
