Ex-Cat Russell in camp with Falcons

August 6, 2013

Donald Russell, the former University of Kentucky running back who wound up transferring to Georgia State, is getting a shot at making the Atlanta Falcons' roster. He used his speed and quickness to make several big plays in the team's "Friday Night Lights" scrimmage, according to the team's website.

"Coming off Friday Night Lights, you just want to maximize every opportunity," said Russell, who rushed for 1,412 yards with 12 touchdowns at Georgia State. "It's a dream come true, and for me to be in the pre-season with the Atlanta Falcons is even better."

Russell's next shot at impressing his coaches will come at 8 p.m. Thursday (on ESPN) in the Falcons' first pre-season game against the Cincinnati Bengals. A big performance could also give him some air time on HBO's Hard Knocks the following Tuesday.
