Legends win on Starling's 9th-inning hit

August 6, 2013

Bubba Starling's single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Lexington Legends a 2-1 walk-off win over the Asheville Tourists on Monday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The win kept the Legends in first place in the South Atlantic League Southern Division. They lead by a half game over Augusta, which defeated Rome 7-4.

Asheville scored its run in the first inning on a ground ball by Rosell Herrera. The Legends tied it in the second on Fred Ford's two-out double that scored Starling.

■ Legends left-hander Daniel Stumpf was named the South Atlantic League's pitcher of the week for the second time this season. Stumpf, whose 2.86 ERA was seventh-best in the league entering Monday's play, pitched six shutout innings, only gave up one hit and earned his team-best ninth win in a 5-1 victory last Thursday.
