Tidbits: For her birthday, chef Ouita Michel serves her favorite foods at Holly Hill Inn

Restaurateur Ouita Michel celebrated her 49th birthday Thursday and will be making some of her favorite things for a culinary fiesta dinner Friday at Holly Hill Inn in Midway.

"I love cooking Latin food, and one of my early jobs in New York City was at Arizona 206, a really high-end Latin restaurant," Michel said. "We will be using all local vegetables and meats, and the seafood and fish are coming from Kelly Probst, flown in straight from the Gulf. It's my last year in my 40s; I want to start it with a bang."

The party starts at 6 p.m. , and the dinner buffet opens at 7. The Kentucky Hoss Cats will entertain from 6 to 9. The cost is $40.

The Latin menu also will be served Saturday and next week. Dinner entrees Saturday include lamb barbacoa and a Guatemalan chicken tamale in a banana leaf. Reservations begin at 5:30 p.m.; the cost is $35 to $65.
