Cats' recruit Delgado picks Seton Hall

August 17, 2013

University of Kentucky basketball recruit Angel Delgado didn't want to wait around for an offer from the Wildcats.

The 6-foot-8 power forward from the Dominican Republic has committed to Seton Hall, his high school coach confirmed Friday. Delgado is considered one of the top 50 prospects from the Class of 2014. His ties to the UK coaching staff were deep, and many recruiting observers predicted that he would end up in Lexington if John Calipari offered a scholarship.

One of Calipari's former players at UMass — Dana Dingle — is Delgado's AAU coach. Dingle was also a high school teammate of UK assistant Orlando Antigua, who is a Dominican native. Delgado also had offers from Louisville, Miami, Virginia and several others.

UK has one commitment from the Class of 2014 — New Jersey center Karl Towns — and the Cats have already offered power forwards Trey Lyles and Cliff Alexander.
