Jimmie Dale Alexander has been indicted by a Fayette County grand jury on a charge of murder and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the death of Tommy Edward Crawford in June.

Alexander, 38, was already being held in the Fayette County Detention Center on the murder charge.

The indictment issued Monday says Alexander caused Crawford's death June 8 by beating him.

Alexander is scheduled to be arraigned in Fayette Circuit Court at noon Aug. 29. No bond has been set on the murder charge.

Court records show Alexander has been arrested multiple times for public intoxication, as well as other offenses.

Crawford had been released from the Fayette County jail, where he had been held for alcohol intoxication, the day before his body was found in a tree-lined field near Georgetown Street and Newtown Pike.
