As Lexington works on a possible re-invention of Rupp Arena, Mayor Jim Gray is asking fans to contribute by sharing memories of the University of Kentucky’s iconic home court.

Gray asked fans to share those memories on social media. The memories will be part of the process of determining exactly what form the renovation may take.

“Rupp is an iconic building for Lexington and its history is important,” Gray said in a news release Tuesday. “Leveraging that remarkable history will be a key part of reinventing the arena to elevate the Rupp brand, the UK brand and the city.”

Rupp Arena opened in 1976. It has undergone several renovations.

The public can submit their Rupp memories through Facebook (, Twitter (@RuppDistrict) or e-mail (
