A McCreary County woman died Tuesday in a crash that happened during an alleged street race.

Caitlin Moore, 20, of Stearns died at the scene of the wreck on Ky. 92 at Pine Knot, Kentucky State Police said.

Moore was a passenger in a 2010 Hyundai Genesis driven by Benjamin Strunk, 23, of Revelo at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday.

Strunk was driving west in the eastbound lane at high speed, racing another vehicle, when Strunk's Hyundai collided head-on with a 2007 Chrysler PT driven by Steven Maggiora, 53, of Strunk, police said. Strunk's car turned over several times, and he and Moore were both thrown from the vehicle.

Maggiora was wearing a seat belt and did not require medical treatment.

Strunk was flown to University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was listed in stable condition Wednesday afternoon.

Drug use is suspected as a factor in the crash, and charges could be filed, police said.
