An assistant football coach at Lincoln County High School died Friday after a motorcycle crash in Garrard County, authorities said.

Michael "Mickey" Goodwin, 47, of Stanford, was pronounced dead at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital just after 3 p.m., according to the Fayette County coroner's office.

Authorities said Goodwin was injured at about 11 a.m. Friday when his motorcycle collided with a car on U.S. 27 at Jaycees Park Road in Garrard County.

According to the Garrard County sheriff's department, Goodwin's northbound motorcycle struck a car that was turning left onto Jaycees Park Road.

The cycle then hit a guardrail, throwing its rider over an embankment, the sheriff's department said.

Goodwin was airlifted to the UK hospital, where he died during surgery, according to the coroner's office.

Multiple blunt force trauma was the cause of death, the coroner's office said.
