Women's soccer's Swift gets hat trick

Kentucky's women's soccer team rolled to a 7-0 victory against Eastern Kentucky on Friday at the UK Soccer Complex. Freshman Zoe Swift recorded goals in the 18th, 51st and 58th minutes for the first UK hat trick since 2006. The Naperville, Ill., native, also added an assist on Stuart Pope's 60th-minute goal for a seven-point night.

"Zoe is very good at finding little seams and little holes to score goals," UK Coach Jon Lipsitz said. "We knew that she would score a lot of goals here, but part of being a goal-scorer is that you have to have a very short memory. She had a couple last week that she should have finished, and she'll be the first to tell you that. All we told her was just keep working and it will come."

The Cats got three assists from junior Arin Gilliland, who was inserted into the lineup as a forward for the first time this season.

■ The UK men's soccer team's season opener against Wright State, which was set to follow the women's matchup at the UK Soccer Complex, was postponed because of a power outage. The match was rescheduled for Nov. 5 with a time to be announced. UK now opens its season at home at 3 p.m. Sunday against Georgia State.

Whitney Billings had 10 kills and 10 digs, the 31st double-double of her career, in the 17th-ranked Kentucky volleyball team's 3-0 loss to No. 18 Florida State at Long Beach, Calif. The Cats lost their season opener 27-25, 25-23, 25-20. Billings needs three kills in Saturday's match against Illinois to become the 14th player in school history to reach 1,000 for her career.
