Costco, the members-only discount shopping warehouse, will open its first Lexington store on Oct. 18 in the Hamburg retail district.

The Lexington store is at Polo Club and Man o' War boulevards, across Interstate 75 from the main Hamburg area.

This location will be its second in Kentucky. There's a store at 5020 Norton Healthcare Boulevard in Louisville. It also has two stores in the Cincinnati area.

The Seattle, Wash.-based company, the second-largest retailer in the country behind Wal-Mart, announced in 2012 that it was coming to Lexington. It sells everything from food and office supplies to jewelry and services such as business payroll processing.

Its annual membership costs run from a $55 household or business membership to a $110 "executive membership," which offers a 2 percent reward (up to $750 a year) on most Costco purchases, and greater discounts on Costco services.

Prospective members may join in advance of the store opening at 1-800-774-2678 or online at Costco.com.
