Lexington firm picked for Louisville streetscape work

September 6, 2013

CARMAN, a Lexington and Louisville architectural, urban planning and engineering firm, has been selected to be the consultant for the streetscape improvements of Louisville's East Market Street — NuLu Arts and Engertainment District.

Louisville's Downtown Development Corp. said in a release Friday that CARMAN was picked after a review of proposals submitted by seven companies.

The East Market District is an unofficial parcel of Louisville situated along Market Street between downtown to the west and the Highlands' neighborhoods to the east. The area houses a growing number of galleries, restaurants, shops, offices and residents.

Streetscape enhancements will occur from the Nucleus development to the Home of the Innocents along the East Market Street corridor, according to the release. The $13 million project is being funded by the state of Kentucky and the Metropolitan Sewer District of Louisville.
