September 7, 2013

Two Missouri men died in an accident on Lake Cumberland on Saturday, according to a release from the Wayne County Coroner's office.

The incident occurred during the annual "Poker Run" on Lake Cumberland, an event that includes more than 150 powerboats.

Jeffery Thomas Asbell, 47, and Bradley David Smith, 39, both of Joplin, Missouri, were ejected from their boat, a 38-foot tunnel hull catamaran. Wayne County Coroner Forrest Hicks said in his release that Abell suffered blunt force trauma to his head, while Smith had blunt force trauma to his abdomen and lower extremities.

The next of kin for both men have been notified, and the bodies will be returned to Missouri.
