A Lexington woman was shot by her ex-boyfriend in front of the couple's 5-year-old child on Sunday, police said.

The woman was taken to University of Kentucky Medical Center. Her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, said Lexington Police Lt. Eddie Hart. Police were searching Sunday for the ex-boyfriend.

The shooting happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Hart said the woman told police that she was getting into a car with another man and her 5-year-old child when her ex-boyfriend pulled up and shot her once in the stomach. He fled in his vehicle.

The woman made it into a house in the 900 block of Valley Avenue, which is off Manchester Street.

Police did not release the identities of the woman or the ex-boyfriend. There was an active no violent contact domestic violence order between the two, Hart said.

Lexington's robbery and homicide unit and the Crimes Against Children unit are investigating, Hart said.
