September 11, 2013

A Russell County teen died in a one-vehicle crash Wednesday, according to Kentucky State Police.

Jesus Martinez, 18, was driving south on Ky. 1680 in a 2001 Ford when he lost control in a curve because the road was wet, state police said. The vehicle hit a tree. A passenger, Matthew Merideth, 13, of Jamestown, died at the scene.

Martinez was released after treatment at Russell County Hospital.

Both occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts, state police said. The wreck happened about 3 p.m. CDT.
