Ballard point guard Snider commits to Illinois

Ballard point guard Quentin Snider announced his commitment to the University of Illinois on Thursday night.

Snider originally committed to Louisville more than two years ago. He reopened his recruitment this summer and immediately received scholarship offers from several top schools.

The 6-foot-1 point guard chose Illinois over UCLA. He took official visits to both schools in recent weeks, and Illinois Coach John Groce and UCLA Coach Steve Alford both traveled to Louisville this week for in-home visits with the Snider family.

Neither UK nor Louisville reached out to Snider after his decommitment from the Cardinals.

Scout.com ranks Snider as the No. 31 overall prospect in the Class of 2014.

He is the highest-rated high school basketball player in Kentucky and will be an early favorite for Mr. Basketball honors.
